For those that will still be in town Sunday we'll be taking our paddle boards and floaties down to Fritz Hedges Waterway Park for a relaxing lake day to wind down our celebrations and say fond farewells. Feel free to drop by at any time - food, drinks and paddle board or kayak rentals will be available next door at Agua Verde Cafe and Paddle Club, or you're welcome to take one of ours out for a spin if they’re free! ----------------------------------------------

Where you're least expecting it, it will find you

I first laid eyes on Jay in the modern fashion; in my best friend’s mom’s basement through a phone screen. There we were scrolling through my Hinge backlog, and then there he was, dressed to the nines in a red flannel, axe slung over his shoulder, looking every bit the lumberjack with the beard to match. And then be-still-my-heart he wooed me with a rock pun. On our first date Jay stumped me with a question he had a ready answer to… What is something you love to do because it brings others joy? I eventually came up with my answer, and it earned Jay a second date… and a third… and he kept planning the most unique and special dates doing things and going places I had never thought of before, ever surprising and delighting me with his silly smile and creative soul. And he’s kept it up ever since – always the adventurous spirit who tries the odd dish, always ready to take me out for a date night I never expected, always there to make me think about the person I am and want to be. All the things I was looking for, found in a place I had scoffed at for years. No not Caitie’s mom’s basement, I always knew that was where I’d find love. The apps. They got me in the end damnit. But I wouldn’t have it any other way because they brought me Jay.

The girl who rocked my world

I remember flipping through the dating apps just to see what happens, no long term plan in sight. I was happy, but maybe fate could wow me even more. Then I saw a picture of a girl at Harry Potter land, with a smile happier than I’d ever seen. I browsed her profile and saw she liked… rock puns? I thought real hard and… made an awful pun. I couldn’t believe I sent it, but I really couldn’t believe Kelly liked it! We talked, and I sent as many rock puns as I could think of! We met and our first date was rocky as can be. But, I felt something special and I asked her for another. Date 2 lead to Date 6, and then lockdown! We hit a crossroad, we were supposed to stop seeing anyone. I was so glad we both thought, “let’s see where we might go”. And worst case… she stops buzzing me in! XD Lockdown was like the world taking away the very ground I stood on, but Kelly kept me solid like the very bedrock below. We’ve since managed to grind against each other, and sometimes cracks appear, but she also holds me tight… more than anyone ever has. It’s really been metamorphic (sorry, not sorry). I am the best I can be, and Kelly is why. I won’t leave her side, and I think she’s staying by mine, cause we are getting married!

Travel to our wedding should be pretty easy!

Our wedding and activities are all centrally located in and around our neighborhood in Seattle! A special thanks to our local friends and family driving in from the 'burbs! Traffic depending you might have the most work to do to join us - we so appreciate you! We are reserving a parking lot across the street from our venue so at least parking won't be a strain. For our friends and family flying in, Seattle has not one but two airports to choose from: Our major international airport, SeaTac, which you can get to from just about anywhere. SeaTac is about a 30-minute ride or drive from Seattle. You can also take the lightrail from the airport to downtown in a little less than an hour. Our second airport, Paine Field in Everett, is a hidden gem! It only serves regional flights, but it is a a pleasure to fly through with non-existent security lines and a cozy, lounge like terminal. About the same distance from Seattle as SeaTac, but plan to be ubering to and from if you choose to fly here - due to its quaint size and charm, public transit and car rentals are much more difficult here.

And there are ample options to stay!

Really anywhere you'd like to stay in Seattle is on the table as long as you plan a few extra minutes to get to our neighborhood! Air BnB and hotel options abound. Below are a few of our favorite hotels at a variety of price points that are closest to us - a 10 minute drive or less from most of our wedding activities. Around & On Lake Union

We are so lucky to live and be getting married in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Seattle! If you are staying in South Lake Union, Eastlake or U District, these activities are all within walking distance (or a very short ride)!

A great park on the north shore of Lake Union and a Seattle icon! If you're up for a long walk, go all around the lake on the Cheshiahud Loop - about 6 miles total - and enjoy Gasworks along the way!

Gas Works Park

A perfect launch to Lake Union from Downtown, South Lake Union Park features beautiful views of the lake and Gasworks, as well as a cool local history museum, the MOHAI. Pop across to Tapster for a build-your-own tasting at the best self-pour beer &amp; cider bar in town!

Our first option for getting out on the water has a few different types of boat to choose from - their standard electric seats about 10 and is great for a cruise around the lake, their donut boats are a fun filled and whirly ride for about 6, and then featured above (from the roof of the boat!) is their electric catamaran, their only swim off boat for a bit more of an adventure!

A central spot for paddleboard and single and double kayak rentals. Walk up &amp; launch right into the center of Lake Union! If there's any wait (or if you just need a snack or drink before launch), head across the boardwalk to White Swan for a great menu of local seafood and yummy beverages.

Moss Bay

One of the most unique ways to see the city - day or night! It's a good idea to reserve these a bit ahead, especially if you're interested in a sunset cruise. There are a couple different companies but this is our favorite - each boat seats (or is it floats?) up to 6!

Around Town

Some of our favorite activities, a little further a flung. Still no rental car necessary, but you might be in an uber or on a ferry for a bit! Seattle also has so many scooter and bike share options around - rent a Lime in the Uber app to get around if you’re feeling adventurous!

A first stop for anyone wanting to see quintessential Seattle, and a launching point for our ferry based adventures below, Waterfront Park is recently renovated and has never been more beautiful! Home to our Ferris wheel, pier parks, the Seattle Aquarium, and the best culinary cabaret theatre in Seattle, Can Can! And with Pike Place Market and our Stadium district on each end there's something for everyone!

Waterfront Park

Catch the water taxi from the downtown ferry terminal for a lovely boat ride down the Sound to West Seattle - and a short bike or scooter ride to Seattle's best beach! The water is cold and the sand's a bit rough, but it's lots of fun we promise! Stop at DiLaurenti's in the market to pick up picnic fixins before departing downtown, or go to Cactus or Spud's once you're there for a great lunch. And the sunset on Alki is truly special!

Walk on the ferry from the downtown terminal for a 30 min journey to nearby Bainbridge Island. Enjoy a great view of Seattle from the water, and maybe even see Orcas on your crossing! Once on Bainbridge make the short walk to their adorable Main Street and enjoy tasting&nbsp;some wonderful Washington wine at one of their many tasting rooms, have a great lunch at Cafe Hitchcock or just enjoy the sights and shops of a cozy beachfront town.

A bit of a drive (25 mins or so) but so worth it if you want a taste of PNW nature without driving out to the mountains. Over 12 miles of trails spanning 500+ acres of park, forests, bluffs and shoreline, and yes that is a baby seal pup in the background of our picture!

August is the perfect time to catch an M's game - keep an eye out to see if Fireworks Night happens while you're here - always a fun night whether we win or lose!

Gettin out of town

If you're driving in or renting a car and have spare day or more, some of our favorite day trips and over-nighters in the area!

So many beautiful options! Pictured is Naches Peak Loop. The main entry points to Mount Ranier National Park are 2-3 hours' drive from Seattle, so it can be a long day or you can rent camping gear from our Downtown REI to make it an over-nighter. Just be sure to check ahead to see if any permits are required for where you want to hike or camp!

Drive an hour and a half north to the Anacortes ferry terminal, which services our beautiful San Juan Island Archipelago. Pictured above is Lopez Island, Friday Harbor is another beautiful stay. Plan ahead for this one, Island lodging and the drive-on spots for these ferries can get competitive in the summer!

Explore the San Juan Islands

In case you don’t have a car but still want a good trip - our favorite way to visit our southern sister city is to catch the Amtrak from King Street station in Seattle, which takes you straight to downtown Portland! Stay at the Kennedy School, an historic elementary school lovingly restored and converted to a multi-use bar, restaurant, and hotel complex if you want a quirky stay, or one of Jay's personal favorites, the Hi-Lo if you want to be closer to downtown and one of our favorite places on earth, Powell's City of Books.
